Larry Gale “Butch” Hyder

JOHNSON CITY – Larry Gale “Butch” Hyder, 77, of Johnson City passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on December 24, 2019. He was born on June 26, 1942, son of the late Fred Hyder, Jr. and Blanche Love Phillips Cecil. In addition to his parents, his beloved grandparents, Fred and Ethel Taylor Hyder preceded him in death. Butch was a 1960 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He retired from Raytheon and Alemite. Butch was a member of the Watauga Lodge #622 F&AM. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Butch enjoyed motorcycles, model airplanes, spending time with his family and fishing with his wife Mitzi. Those left to cherish his many wonderful memories include his wife of 59 years, Mitzi White Hyder; two daughters, Felisa Townsend (Jeff) and Kim Williams; one son Larry Joe Hyder; six grandchildren, Kari Masters (Andrew), Brandon Townsend (April), Jared Williams (Kaitlin Hensley), Elijah Hyder, Hannah Hyder and Ethan Hyder; three great-grandchildren, Colton Masters, Emma Townsend and Westley Williams; his three sisters, Freddie Williams (Tom), Patty Grove (Wayne) and Judy Miller; one brother, Greg Hyder (Marsha) and also several nieces and nephews and his special cat “Callie Mae”. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Dogwood Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow under the direction of Rev. Mike Richards. Masonic Rites will be accorded by the Watauga Lodge #622 F&AM. A committal service is scheduled for Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the Happy Valley Memorial Park under the direction of Rev. Mike Anglin. Active pallbearers will be: grandsons, Brandon Townsend, Jared Williams, Eli Hyder and Ethan Hyder, son Joe Hyder and Rick White. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tom Williams, Ken White and David White. The family would like to thank the 4200 West Wing at Johnson City Medical Center and Greeneville Community Hospital West, Dr. Frank Johnson and Dr. Keith Cook and his special caregiver, Hannah Hyder.
