Joe Bobby “JB” Birks, Jr.
JOHNSON CITY – Joe Bobby “JB” Birks, Jr., 71, a life-long resident of Johnson City, Tennessee, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at his home. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Hughes Birks Gordon and Joe Bobby Birks, Sr. Joe attended Langston High School and graduated from the first integrated class of Science Hill High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in the 491st Transportation Company. Joe attended East Tennessee State University for two years before his employment with Mason Dixon Trucking and CSX Railroad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers Johnny Lee Birks, Harold Lee Birks, and sister Martha Louise Phillips. His memory is left to be cherished by his daughters Dr. Ava Holt (Terry) and Michaela Birks, his sons Abdul-Kareem Ali (Dinah) and Alex Dabner (Jamie), his sisters Adeline Madison and Edna Scott, and his 11 grandchildren: Sawyer, Terrence, Victoria, Serenity, Kedar, Qi, Alexander, Wyatt, Jamison, Melissa, Brooklynn, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Due to the current mandated restrictions on public gatherings, the family will have a private service at Birchette Mortuary, followed by a private interment at the Veteran’s Affairs Cemetery.
