The Nashville United Way provides free tax preparation

The United Way of Greater Nashville is helping locals in Nashville and Middle Tennessee prepare income tax returns this year.

Nashville tax returnCreated by the IRS, the VITA Free Tax Prep program provides free tax prep to low and moderate-income taxpayers. This happens through the use of community partners and volunteers, particularly with GetYourRefund.org. Through VITA, IRS-certified tax preparers assist individuals and families in receiving important credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Child Tax Credit (CTC) that lift millions out of poverty each year.

The program is limited to households with an income of less than $70,000. Free tax preparation is available in-person and through virtual sites. For the online option, all you need is a smartphone, tablet or computer and internet access. The online option is free, secure and easy to use, and the same IRS-certified tax preparers who help year after year will help you virtually.

All in-person sites are following CDC protocols and local guidelines.
